IF I WERE PRESIDENT

Web Video Series Premier

Episode 1: Trump's Mexican Dinner

STORYLINE

In “If I Were President”, a diverse selection children have been interviewed to give their take on how they would resolve some of the world’s toughest challenges if they were president of the United States.

Their answers, devoid of historical facts, political affiliations, geographical boundaries and religious ideology, capture the essential goodness of humanity.

While the video’s tone is whimsical, it also speaks to universal truths about compassion and the brotherhood of man. A re-enactment of the fantastical solution each child has imagined will be brought to life by real actors.

During the process of creating this first video, we've prioritized the comedic aspects as much as possible,

while also bringing forth the delightful, innocent and imaginative wisdom from each child’s singular voice.

STORYLINE

The project, "Know Yourself", is for a retail company in China called V.I.P. The video is comprised of seven vignettes and is about how complex and multidimensional people are when we look closer.

In the video, the camera catches people in real moments, as they actually are with their masks removed. They each look at the camera and make an “I am...” statement revealing something about their true nature. The statement they use plays against stereotypes of the person. After they make the "I am... " statement (that seems to play against our initial idea of them), we cut to a shot that reveals something striking and exciting about who they truly are.

STORYLINE

Shards deals with a current and controversial topic: the aftermath of war, which takes place in the homes where soldiers return and must cope with the inhumanity of their wartime experience. Soon after his return, daughter Erin, realizes that something is awfully wrong with her father Abraham, a newly discharged Iraq war veteran. He is not the dad she used to have, and even simple things, like getting a hug, can seem unattainable. His obvious instability and unpredictability cause confusion and mistrust among the other family members. Yet Erin's determination, sensitivity, courage, and ability to empathize with her troubled father enable her to reach beyond his paralyzing mask of estrangement, and take the initial step toward healing for both of them.

Rebecca has enjoyed working on a variety of projects for Safeway including a fundraising video that spanned across three screens. The most recent projects were shot on location in Boise, Idaho and Pleasanton, California, inside Safeway stores. It was a real pleasure to work with the client, Chris Rogers, who has an unfaltering eye for detail and a great sense of humor.

"Rebecca, It was an absolute pleasure working with you.  Footage looks great!"

WARRIOR DASH

Branding Narrative

(Director, Videographer & Editor)

Warrior Dash is an obstacle course race with over two million participants worldwide. Our eight videographers were faced with the challenge of keeping up with highly trained athletes as they sprinted through miles of mountainous slopes and across wide expanses of rough desert terrain. I positioned each camera operator strategically so that they could film one event, jump in a Jeep and make it to a second location ahead of the athletes. The Herculean athletes were so fast that it was next to impossible to keep up with them and sometimes we failed to do so.

I personally filmed the men and women crawling through mud pits with my Sony FS 700 at 240 fps. It’s rare to have an opportunity that justifies using extreme slow motion. The footage looked beautiful and the experience was exhilarating and rewarding.

We were all covered from head to toe in dirt, thoroughly sunburned and completely exhausted when the races were over, but I have to say that watching these athletes was incredibly inspirational.

While creating a series of videos for LUNA on women who are changing the world, I was given the honor to film an interview with Jeanne Rizzo, president & CEO of the non-profit organization the Breast Cancer Fund. She is also a nurse, an award-winning music, theater and film

producer, a board member on the National Institute of Environmental Health and a documentary film maker.

Jeanne Rizzo’s vision guided the Breast Cancer Fund to adopt its bold mission to work to prevent breast cancer by eliminating our exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation linked to the disease. Under her direction the organization has become a national leader in translating the science linking breast cancer and environmental exposures into public education and advocacy campaigns that protect our health and reduce breast cancer risk.

"I really enjoyed being in the presence of such a strong, dynamic powerhouse like Jeanne."

85th Year Celebration

For many years now, Rebecca has worked on a variety of videos for International House on the UC Berkeley Campus.  I-House is a multicultural residential “living and learning” center with scholars from 70+ countries. Its mission is to foster intercultural respect, understanding, lifelong friendships, and leadership skills to promote a more tolerant and peaceful world.

"Bec's experience and instincts transformed what was a simple organizational timeline project into an engaging short film.  Her direction and editorial guidance meant our movie conveys facts concisely and with clarity, but also succeeds in soliciting genuine human emotional response.  It  informs AND inspires - just like Rebecca herself.  I can't wait to work with her again!"

STORYLINE

Osama Bin Laden post 911, U.S. Forces rout their leadership from Kabul and free its Afghan citizens from the brutal grip of spiritual henchman Mullah Mohammed Omar and that of his dark-age Sharia led leadership. Seizing upon this new and volatile window of freedom, matriarch Farishta Mansouri along with her husband Hadar normalize their family's efforts by turning her deceased father's Soviet destroyed bookstore into a restaurant. A place of hope called "The Poet's Corner" along with an open microphone, a small stage and an invitation for all Afghans to read their poetry, voice is now given to the voiceless. Both men and women now have a safe, equal and inviting place to tell their stories and to sing their songs. But like a lightening rod, these new voices of freedom attract the darkest, lingering factional Taliban elements who then target the Mansouri family in the most heinous ways imaginable...
